Laura
Laura Stewart is now enjoying her second year in a real home in the community. She is living in a condominium unit which she rents from LiveWorkPlay and shares with a roommate. She has her own lease with her name on it.
Laura has a lot of social roles. This includes tremendous involvement with family and extended family. She is famous for being on SMILE trips and remembering to purchase thoughtful gifts for cousins or nephews with pending birthdays.
She is also very active in her church, and that is where she did a lot of healing with regard to overcoming the afteraffects of ill treatment in her high school environment. She eventually composed a speech about it and shared a tearful moment with her entire church community. It was a release of pain that helped her move forward.
Laura Stewart has her own dog-walking business, which she started after connecting with a university professor who needed just such a service. They connected through the On Our Own Together II housing project. She also volunteers in a family literacy program and is seldom without a book in hand.
Ms. Stewart was recruited for our public service message because she is quite famous for her ability to clearly communicate when someone has made an ignorant comment, and that is exactly what the script called for in our first scene!
You can't sum up a whole person in one phrase, but if we were to try to do that for Laura, we'd say "She's a people person who is devoted to thoughts of others."
