Our Tagline (Slogan)
The story of our tagline "A Good Life for People with Intellectual Disabilities" is another tale of pleasant happenstance, much like the story of the origins of our logo.
Back in the spring of 2007 the staff team was sorting through tons of member feedback in search of an appropriate theme for the annual Visioning Day. Coming up with a single theme was proving an enormous challenge. Clients and parents seemed to have equal interest in a number of issues, including:
- quality non-institutional housing
- relationships, especially romance and friendships
- contributing to one's community as a respected citizen
- increased decision-making and choice for people with intellectual disabilities
- financial security for now and for the future
Instead of trying to chose just one standout issue, Visioning Day 2007 was entitled simply "A GOOD LIFE." The idea was to have a healthy discussion about what it means to have a good life. We also talked about the problem of how to better answer the question of "What is LiveWorkPlay all about."
Many a wise person present that day pointed out that LiveWorkPlay is all about the theme that guided the rest of the discussions that day. And thus the tagline A Good Life for People with Intellectual Disabilities was born!
You may think such an answer to the question of "What do you do?" is a little bit vague, but that's part of what makes it so right. What we are trying to do is not in question. People with intellectual disabilities want exactly what everybody else wants out of life. But how to go about it is an evolving process, so the pursuit of a good life is always going to be an ongoing discussion, not a fixed target. And LiveWorkPlay wouldn't have it any other way!
