Our Name
In the early years, what is now known as the LiveWorkPlay organization went through two name changes. Originally incorporated as Keen Learning Centre for Youth in 1995, the name changed to Special Needs Network (SNN) before the organization opened its first office in 1997. This had mainly to do with an early funding opportunity that involved operating a website to connect teachers in Specia
l Education.
When SNN quickly moved into delivering its own services, the idea that it was an information network simply didn't tell the right story anymore. So, in close consultation with people being served by the organization and their parents, the Board of Directors and staff developed a new name - LiveWorkPlay - which was approved by a vote of 97% in favour at the 2000 annual general meeting.
Why LiveWorkPlay? We wanted to be about serving the whole person in all three areas of life: where they live, where they work, and where they play.
There are no spaces in "LiveWorkPlay" because home life, work life, and play life are all connected. If you are experiencing depression at home, you aren't going to be happy at work. If you about to lose your job, your ability to enjoy time out in the community with friends is going to suffer. Everything we do as human beings shares connections, and we wanted our organization to function with that understanding in mind.
So, please don't call us "Live Work Play" or "Live, Work, Play" or "Live Work and Play" or "Liveworkplay". We are LiveWorkPlay!
