May 11: Day 4

The morning got off to a rough start for Rachel, who could not find her bus pass. The group all tried to help out, but made a decision to use some bus tickets and keep on schedule. What happened to the bus pass? Stay tuned.

Later in the day Ryan helped Jen prepare for her travels to MBNA by spending the afternoon showing her the bus route from Carleton to Hurdman and back. There's that peer support again!

Today Julie started the tracking right at 4:30 and it seems like a good time to do it. Everyone is just relaxing and not distracted by all the social and activity opportunities that come up after dinner. It was all done by just after 5:30 and then everyone collected in the lounge and left for dinner around 6:00. Ian and Warren were already gone, they took the O-Train and met up with their support worker at South Keys.

The cafeteria was extremely quiet tonight. The food choices were pretty good, and the fajita bar was pretty popular. It was Paul's birthday today, so everyone sang to him during dinner. Paul is not a big fan of birthday attention, but he suffered through it with an occasional smile on his face.

After dinner Robin, Cooper, and Lucas went for a walk on what was truly a beautiful warm spring evening. A lot of people were tired (independence is a lot of work!) and took it easy. Robin and John watched American Idol. Keenan popped in towards the end and kept siding with Simon on all his choices, despite claiming no interest in the show.

After that, John quickly switched the channel to hockey, which earned him an opportunity to practice asking everyone in the room what they would like to watch. The Flames have pretty much been adopted as the OOOT2 team, so there was a consensus to check out the game.

The cheering in the first period earned OOOT2 the distinction of receiving a noise complaint from another resident, resulting in the realization that the doors to the lounge need to be kept closed.

By 10:00 everyone was either asleep or heading that way except for Paul who was still in the lounge chatting with Julie. Then, it happend. The loudest fire alarm you will ever hear.

To day that some participants were distressed by this would be a bit of an understatement. However, there was no panic. Everyone took care to make sure their suite mates were out of their rooms, closed the door, and made their way down the hall to the exit and outside. Some people couldn't decide whether they wanted to laugh or cry, but it pretty much turned into a party atmosphere. Eventually even the fire department (false alarm by the way) got into the OOOT2 action.

Oh, and for those who laughed at those slippers, they came in handy, didn't they!
