The Innovative LiveWorkPlay Approach To Long-Term Housing For People With Intellectual Disabilities
June 15: Day 39
The whole group is still bursting with energy. Whether it was Laura and Ryan running around the lounge like they were in kindergarten, Cooper bounding down the hallway like he was trying out for a starring role in Sound of Music II, Jen dragging a huge bag of laundry down the hall like Santa Claus, or Paul using certain one-digit gestures to communicate his feelings about the federal election debate, everyone was flying high.
It has also become community knowledge that a certain male participant has taken to greeting his suite mates with a "full moon" as a good morning gesture. The roomies seem neither offended nor particularly surprised by this new routine, although ensuring that the door is locked in the morning has become a new priority.
The cafeteria helped prepare everyone for an active evening by providing some unusually good food, including delicious roast beef and mashed potatoes. Keenan had a helping of roast beef that led Caroline to tell a moldly oldy joke that had everyone chuckling pretty hard.
After dinner Moira and Caroline got set up with some drawing materials and later on Julie and John and Jen joined in. Before that a bunch of people went for a walk on yet another beautiful night.
The open house is coming up fast! It's going to be a great opportunity to practice communicating with a wide variety of people and there seems to be a lot of interest. But, it's an open house, so it's all a bit of an exciting mystery wondering how many people will visit!
Caroline took a big step by moving her stuff back in, and everyone is really happy about it, especially Moira and Laura who really missed their roomie.
