May 26: Day 19

It was such a busy night. All sorts of things were happening all at the same time so the chronicles have no way to do it all justice.

First of all, returning home everyone had to deal with the fact that there were all sorts of emergency vehicles at the other end of campus responding to a concern about some envelopes. It turned out that nobody was hurt, but until that was clarified, a lot of participants were having trouble sticking with the facts. Someone thought they had heard there might be a bomb. Someone else heard nine people were injured. Keenan and Dale talked with everyone about "sticking with the facts" but it was a challenge to deal with the different sources of information coming in from word of mouth and telephone.

Thankfully just before leaving for dinner the local news reported that everyone was safe and nobody was hurt. The group reviewed what the news report had said so that everyone was feeling comfortable about being on campus, and also feeling competent to talk about what happened without straying from the facts.

Caroline did some sketches while the group was waiting for dinner and she got a lot of nice compliments on it.

Dinner in the cafeteria was shared with the women's soccer team from the Dominican Republic. Moira tried to do a bit of translating but she says people in Chile don't talk quite as fast as soccer players from the Dominican Republic and it was hard to keep up! They were invited to visit the first floor lounge on Thursday night to watch the Stanley Cup playoffs, but didn't seem terribly interested. They didn't seem too excited about that, and maybe sitting in front of a TV to watch people skating indoors on ice at the end of May would seem pretty weird to athletes from the Dominican who are here for a soccer tournament.

After dinner Warren finished up some laundry, and discovered that jeans take longer to dry than sport socks.

Jen is not a big TV fan, so she decided to take the initiative about developing some more interesting evening activities by writing out some invitations for a stained-glass-making-party tomorrow night. The invitations were well received and it should be an interesting evening on Thursday.

Cooper and Robin had a little bit of paperwork to do, reading and signing their employment supports documents. Jenny brought her CD rack home from LiveWorkPlay and it holds a bunch of CDs and more. Rachel made a cool keepsake box out of popsicle sticks and she was proud of how great it looks.

Elaine came for a short visit and brought unofficial mascot Gryphon along. Gryphon did not seem to mind having 8 people take him for a walk all at the same time.

In the late evening the lounge is a great place to see some truly funky outfits, and there's often more too it than groovy slippers. Ryan in particular was really stylin' tonight with a bright red lumberjack jacket, pyjama bottoms, and of course a big pile of keys hooked onto the elastic waistband.

Ryan, Cooper, and Ian were having some challenges figuring out how to share some of the duties in their suite. They got help to decide on a schedule that would be fair to everyone, and that got everyone in a relaxed mood and along with John they had a little xbox hockey tournament.
